Faremoutiers is a French commune with 2,822 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Seine-et-Marne in the region Ile-de-France . Faremoutiers belongs to the Arrondissement of Meaux and the canton of Fontenay-Trésigny and is a member of the Communauté de communes la Brie des Moulins . The place is in the valley of the Aubetin River .

history

Faremoutiers is home to a monastery founded around 620 by the holy abbess Fara . Ruothild, a daughter of Charlemagne, was abbess here from 840 to 852, her niece Bertha presumably afterwards. The monastery was dissolved during the French Revolution , but has been inhabited again since 1931.
