It belongs to the arrondissement of Meaux and the canton of Mitry-Mory (until 2015: canton of Dammartin-en-Goële ). The inhabitants are called Moussyssiens .

Moussy-le-Vieux is surrounded by the neighboring communities Moussy-le-Neuf in the north and north-west, Othis in the north-east, Longperrier in the east, Villeneuve-sous-Dammartin in the south and south-east, Le Mesnil-Amelot in the south-west and Mauregard in the west and south-west .
