The Palazzo Strozzi is a Renaissance palace in Florence .

history

The palace was built around 1489–1539 on behalf of Filippo Strozzi, probably based on designs by Benedetto da Maiano . Giuliano da Sangallo made a wooden model. The architectural model was the Palazzo Medici Riccardi . It embodies the Florentine city palace of the early Renaissance in a very pure form. Filippo Strozzi died before the Palazzo Strozzi was completed. The Strozzi family remained the owners of the building until it was sold in 1937 to the then state-owned Istituto Nazionale delle Assicurazioni .

Todays use

Today the building is the seat of the Centro di cultura contemporanea Strozzina . There are regular exhibitions on Italian and international art themes. The exhibition Il Cinquecento a Firenze: Tra Michelangelo, Pontormo e Giambologna, for example, combines works by Michelangelo Buonarroti , Benvenuto Cellini , Jacopo da Pontormo , Andrea del Sarto , Giorgio Vasari and others. a.
