Tavarnelle Val di Pesa is a district of the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle in the metropolitan city of Florence , located in the Tuscany region .

Tavarnelle Val di Pesa is located around 30 km south of the provincial and regional capital Florence in the valley of the river Pesa (10 of 55 km in the local area). The place is in the Chianti area and in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in Zone E, 2 344 GR / G.

The former municipality included the districts (frazioni) Sambuca Val di Pesa , San Donato in Poggio and Badia a Passignano (341 m) as well as the villages (hamlets) Bonazza (341 m), Chiostrini (346 m), Madonna di Pietracupa (400 m ), Magliano (364 m), Morrocco (333 m), Noce (371 m), Palazzuolo (385 m), Romita (333 m), San Michele (357 m) and San Pietro in Bossolo (350 m).

history

Tavarnelle was a Roman station and was first mentioned in a document as Tabernulae in 790. In the 12th century, the place fell under the control of the Republic of Florence . The municipality belonged to Barberino Val d'Elsa as a district until 1893 and became an independent municipality on May 1, 1893. In the vote on the municipal merger with Barberino Val d'Elsa on November 11 and 12, 2018 in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, 82.06% (with 49.09% voter turnout) voted for the merger. This was completed on January 1, 2019 with the establishment of the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle .

  • Rocca dei Dragoni : The Dutch royal family owns a property from the Middle Ages outside the town center, the Rocca dei Dragoni . Queen Beatrix bought it as a private property in the 1970s and had it renovated and modernized. She later left the property to her sons for use. Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and his family regularly use the property during the summer holidays, as do other members of the royal family.
