Santa Maria degli Angeli is a fraction of the city of Assisi , Province of Perugia , Umbria Region , Italy.
It is located about 4 km southwest of the city center at 218 meters above sea level , in the plain of the Valle Umbra . It is best known for the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli , as Basilica Maior, one of the most important churches in Christianity.
It has about 10,700 inhabitants. In 2001, according to official figures, there were 6,665 inhabitants.
