Caprese Michelangelo is a municipality with 1399 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Arezzo in Tuscany , Italy .
geography
The place is in the upper Tiber valley on the eastern edge of the central Italian region Tuscany , east of Florence on the ridge of the Apennines .
The districts include Casalino di Caprese, Dicciano, Fragaiolo, Gregnano, Lama, Monna, Papiano, Ponte Singerna, San Casciano, San Cristoforo, Selva Perugina, Sovaggio, Trecciano and Valboncione.
The neighboring municipalities are Anghiari , Chitignano , Chiusi della Verna , Pieve Santo Stefano and Subbiano .
history
The area was already settled in the Etruscan period. In the Middle Ages, the area was strongly influenced by the Longobards who settled here . In 1226 the place came under the rule of Arezzo . By royal decree of February 9, 1913, the name of its most famous citizen, Michelangelo , was added to the place name Caprese.
