After the abbey was abandoned at the end of the 14th century, the place became part of the Republic of Florence in 1384 and then attached to Subbiano, where it remained until the early 19th century. In 1527 Charles III conquered and destroyed . de Bourbon-Montpensier , paid for Charles V , the place. The bridge Ponte Caliano to Ponte Caliano (district of Subbiano), probably built in Roman times and first documented in 1211, was almost completely destroyed in World War II in 1944 and was later rebuilt. Since the unification of Italy, the place has seen an increase in population. In 1861 there were around 2500 residents, in 2011 around 5400 people lived in the village.
