Anghiari is an Italian municipality with 5470 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Arezzo . The city is a member of Cittàslow , a movement founded in Italy in 1999 to slow down and improve the quality of life in cities. The municipality is also a member of the I borghi più belli d'Italia association (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy).

The community extends over around 130 km² . It is located about 20 km east of Arezzo and 80 km southeast of Florence .

The districts include Carboncione, Catigliano, Motina, Ponte alla Piera, San Leo, Scheggia, Tavernelle and Viaio. The neighboring municipalities are Arezzo , Caprese Michelangelo , Citerna (PG) , Monterchi , Pieve Santo Stefano , Sansepolcro and Subbiano .

Stepped path in Anghiari

On June 29, 1440 the Battle of Anghiari took place between Florence and Milan . From 1942 Slovenian and Croatian civilians were interned in the Renicci concentration camp near Anghiari.
