Talla is a municipality with 999 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Arezzo in the Tuscany region in Italy .

Location of Talla in the province of Arezzo

The community extends over around 60  km² . It is located about 20 km north of the provincial capital Arezzo and 60 km southeast of the regional capital Florence . Important bodies of water in the municipality are the Torrenti Capraia (every 6 km in the municipality) and Talla (every 6 km in the municipality), which flows through the center of Talla. The place is in the area of ​​the Valdarno ( Arno valley , also called Valdarno superiore or Valdarno casentinese ), but is not directly on the river, and in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in zone E, 2 168 GR / G and is part of the Unione dei Comuni Montani del Casentino . The place belongs to the diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro .

The districts include Bicciano (534  m , approx. 35 inhabitants), Capraia (639 m, approx. 25 inhabitants), Faltona (722 m, approx. 220 inhabitants), Pieve di Pontenano (580 m, approx. 45 inhabitants), Pontenano (791 m, approx. 50 inhabitants) and Santo Bagnena (484 m, approx. 25 inhabitants).

The neighboring municipalities are Capolona , Castel Focognano , Castiglion Fibocchi and Loro Ciuffenna .

history

Talla is of Etruscan origin. In 1888, Etruscan graves from the 4th century BC were found in the local district of Le Buche . Chr. Found. The castle was first mentioned in documents in 1057. After 1249 Talle and its surroundings fell under the control of the Ubertini di Chitignano . From 1314 the place became the property of the Tarlati family, after the death of Bishop Guido Tarlati of Arezzo, Talla fell back into the hands of the Ubertini in 1327. Due to the expansion policy of the Republic of Florence, Talla was forced to submit to it in 1353. The boundaries of today's location were set in 1809. During the Second World War , the town center was severely damaged, in particular an arson in July 1944 destroyed most of the apartments. In addition, Talla is the starting point of a longstanding legal dispute over compensation payments from the Federal Republic of Germany to former forced laborers, since in 1944 an 18-year-old from Talla was abducted by the Wehrmacht for forced labor.

  • Chiesa di San Niccolò , church built in 1644 in the main town. Contains the canvas paintings Madonna del Rosario e Santi by Tommaso Gorini and Morte di San Giuseppe by Giovanni Andrea Fabbrini.
  • Castellaccia , a 10th century castle overlooking the village. According to legend, Guido von Arezzo (Guido Monaco) was born here.
