Castelfranco Piandiscò is an Italian municipality with 9936 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Arezzo in the Tuscany region and is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy).
geography
The place is about 30 km northwest of the provincial capital Arezzo and about 30 km southeast of the regional capital Florence . The municipality is located in the Valdarno landscape (upper Arno valley ). The most important river in the municipality is the 12 km long Torrente Faella .
The most important districts include Castelfranco di Sopra , Faella and Pian di Scò .
The neighboring municipalities are Castel San Niccolò , Figline e Incisa Valdarno ( FI ), Loro Ciuffenna , Reggello (FI), San Giovanni Valdarno and Terranuova Bracciolini .
history
The municipality was created on January 1, 2014 by merging the previously independent municipalities of Castelfranco di Sopra and Pian di Scò. In the referendum on April 21 and 22, 2013, 61.02% (60.70% turnout) in Castelfranco di Sopra voted in favor of the union, in Pian di Scò 52.66% (34.02% turnout). The law merging the two municipalities is Legge Regionale n.32 of June 18, 2013. The town hall is located in Castelfranco di Sopra.
