history
The first settlement in what is now the municipality was created by the Romans . The place name is probably derived from Monte (mountain) and the Latin personal name Miniarius or from minimum. The place is mentioned for the first time in a document in the 12th century, when the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta was mentioned by the diocese of Fiesole . The Castello dei Conti Guidi was built around the same time . The Guidi family ruled the place first with the consent of Henry VI. and later by Friedrich II. (HRR) . This rule lasted until the middle of the 14th century, when the population, like that of Castel San Niccolò, rebelled against the Counts Guidi. In 1359, Count Galeotto Guidi was forced to sign the renunciation of his possessions. The place then developed a Podesteria under the Republic of Florence. Later the place was assigned to the province of Arezzo.
