Monterchi is an Italian commune with 1718 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Arezzo in the Tuscany region .
geography
The community extends over around 29 km². It is located about 20 km east of Arezzo and 80 km south-east of Florence in the Tiberina Valley , in the climatic classification of Italian communities in Zone E, 2271 GR / G. The largest rivers in the municipality are the Padonchia (8 km in the municipality) and the Cerfone (7 km).
The districts include Borgacciano, Fonaco, Le Ville, Padonchia, Pianezze, Pocaia and Ripoli.
The neighboring municipalities are Anghiari , Arezzo , Citerna ( PG ), Città di Castello (PG) and Monte Santa Maria Tiberina (PG).
history
The place was first documented in 1095. After the Battle of Anghiari , the place fell under the rule of the Republic of Florence in 1440 and was thus later incorporated into the Duchy of Tuscany . The name comes from the Latin mons Hercules .

- Cappella di Santa Maria di Momentana , here was the fresco Madonna del Parto by Piero della Francesca in 1455 , which was removed in 1911 and is now in the museum of the same name.
