Montebello della Battaglia is an Italian commune with 1543 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the southwest of the Lombardy region . The addition of the name della Battaglia refers to two battles that were fought in Montebello.
On June 9th, 1800 Napoleonic troops defeated the Austrians near Montebello (→ Battle of Montebello (1800) ).
At the beginning of the second Italian War of Independence , the allied French and Piedmontese fought at Montebello on May 21, 1859 against Austrian associations, which initially gained the upper hand. Piedmontese cavalry units prevented an Austrian victory. French reinforcements then decided the battle in favor of the allied French and Piedmontese.
