The Mein Schiff 3 is a cruise ship of the shipping company TUI Cruises . It was put into service on May 22, 2014, has a length of 293 meters and is approved for 2506 passengers. It is the shipping company's first new building.

history

On September 27, 2011, the contract for the construction of the ship between TUI Cruises and STX Finland was signed. Another part of the contract was the option for another new building. On November 5, 2012 it was announced that the option on Mein Schiff 4 would be exercised. The Mein Schiff 3 was commissioned from the STX Finland shipyard as the first new build in the TUI Cruises fleet . The first steel cut, which initiated the start of construction, was started on November 5, 2012 by TUI Cruises CEO Richard J. Vogel.

The keel of the Mein Schiff 3 was laid on May 24, 2013 - the launch , as planned, on November 8, 2013. On April 22, 2014, the Mein Schiff 3 took off for the first test run. The commissioning took place by handover on May 22, 2014. Originally, the transfer trip to Germany should have started on May 24, 2014. The ship was due to arrive in Kiel on May 26th. However, since there were delays in the construction, the first call took place on June 4, 2014.

The christening of the ship by Helene Fischer took place on June 12, 2014. According to the shipping company, as with the sister ships, the naming aims at the feel-good experience of guests who value pampering, contemporary travel and relaxed discovery. The subsequent maiden voyage from June 13-22 led from Hamburg along the European Atlantic coast via the port cities of Le Havre , La Coruña , Porto , Lisbon and Cádiz to Palma .

In early May 2020, eight crew members tested positive for COVID-19 . The cruise ship is z. Z. in Cuxhaven and is under quarantine .

Furnishing

Upper deck with outdoor pool

The ship can accommodate 2,506 passengers in 1,253 cabins (with 2 people / cabin). About 1,000 crew members take care of the passengers . Around 90% of the cabins are outside cabins and more than 80% of them are balcony cabins.

The ship has 15 decks and is measured at around 99,700 GT . It is approx. 295 m long and 35.8 m wide. The draft is 8.05 m.

particularities

At the time of commissioning, the following were unique on a cruise ship:

  • a 25 meter long outdoor pool,
  • the concert hall called the Klanghaus and
  • the so-called "diamond"; a 167 square meter glass facade that is attached to the stern of the ship and extends over two decks.

The “Blue Balcony” can be found at the stern on deck 14, two glass platforms around eleven square meters in size, 37 meters above the surface of the water.

gastronomy

The restaurant concept has been expanded across from the shipping company's first two ships. The service restaurant “Atlantik” on Mein Schiff 3 was initially divided into the areas “Classic” on deck 4 and “Eurasia” and “Mediterranean” on deck 5. Due to a lack of demand, the “Eurasia” was discontinued at the end of November 2016 in favor of the “Mediterranean”. New additions are a bakery at the entrance to the buffet restaurant “Anckelmannsplatz” on deck 12 and the 24/7 bistro “Day and Night” on deck 5. The “Gosch Sylt”, known from the sister ships, is located in the rear area of deck 12 and is divided into a service and a buffet area except for breakfast. The Japanese restaurant “Hanami” has been added to the two pay restaurants “Surf & Turf” and “Richards - Feines Essen” on deck 5. There are a total of ten restaurants and bistros on 4,952 square meters as well as thirteen bars and lounges.

environmental Protection

For the first new building, TUI Cruises says it is pursuing an “environmentally friendly building plan”. For example, mainly recyclable materials, articles made from renewable raw materials and materials with recognized environmental certificates were used to build the ship. The energy consumption should be 30% less compared to similar ships. A combined exhaust gas aftertreatment system and a desulfurization system reduce emissions from shipping in the case of flue gases, nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides. The main engines run on heavy fuel oil . In 2011, TUI Cruises CEO Richard J. Vogel had received the negative Dinosaur of the Year award for the cruise fleet's consumption of large quantities of heavy fuel oil.
