The Mein Schiff Herz (until January 2019: Mein Schiff 2 ) is a cruise ship operated by the TUI Cruises shipping company . It was taken over by the previous owner from Meyer-Werft on November 2, 1997 , has a length of 262.5 meters and is approved for 1912 passengers. The ship corresponds to the Panamax form factor.

history

The ship was completed on November 2, 1997 at the Meyer Werft in Papenburg and delivered as the third and last ship of the Century class to the shipping company Celebrity Cruises (subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line ), which initially named it Mercury and from 2008 operated as Celebrity Mercury .

In February 2011 Celebrity Cruises put the ship out of service. TUI Cruises took over the ship in March 2011 . From March to May 2011 the ship, like the Mein Schiff before , was converted by the Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven for TUI Cruises (joint venture of the German TUI AG and the Norwegian-American Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.) and after the christening by the godmother Anja Fichtel started up again on May 14, 2011 under the name Mein Schiff 2 . The numbering originally referred to the order of the ships used by the shipping company. The parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price of the ship. The cost of the renovation was put at around 50 million euros.

Initially, it was planned that the Mein Schiff 2 would be handed over to Thomson Cruises in the summer of 2019 after the new Mein Schiff 2 was commissioned within the TUI Group . It should be named TUI Explorer 2 or Marella Explorer 2 . The new building originally planned under the name Mein Schiff 8 was supposed to take on the name Mein Schiff 2 .

In 2018 it was decided to keep the old ship in the fleet after 2019 after a renaming. On January 12, 2019, it was renamed Mein Schiff Herz .

From February 13th to March 3rd, the ship was rebuilt in Marseille at Chantiers de Naval . On March 3, the ship went on its premiere voyage and was christened on March 6, 2019 in Lisbon by the godmother Anja Fichtel. The ship is to be used for Marella Cruises from April 2022.

commitment

After the takeover of TUI Cruises in 2011, Mein Schiff 2 sailed from Hamburg and Kiel to Northern Europe , as well as in summer 2012. The ship spent the autumn season in the western and eastern Mediterranean , where it will also be used between April and November 2013. The Caribbean is sailed in the winter months , with the exception of the turn of the year 2012/2013, where Dubai is your port of departure for cruises to the Emirates . Mein Schiff 2 also offered these cruises in the 2014/2015 winter season.

The third Rockliner with Udo Lindenberg took place on Mein Schiff 2 in 2014 . The first two editions of this rock cruise took place in 2010 on Mein Schiff 1 .

The fifth Full Metal Cruise no longer took place on Mein Schiff 1 like the four previous ones , but on Mein Schiff 2 .

Data

The ship can accommodate 1912 passengers in 956 cabins (with 2 people / cabin). There are 652 outside cabins, 427 of which have a balcony or veranda. The subdivision of the ship and the names of the decks are roughly based on the structure of the sister ship Mein Schiff 1 . The maximum speed is 21.5 knots .
