The Full Metal Cruise is a heavy metal festival, which at irregular intervals on a cruise ship the TUI cruises takes place. The cruises are organized by the Wacken Open Air team . The first cruise was in 2013, the second and third were in 2015. These were sold out in no time. The Full Metal Cruise IV followed in September 2016, the fifth cruise took place in April 2017. Full Metal Cruise 6 followed in April 2018 and was fully booked within a few hours.

The venue for the first four trips was the cruise ship Mein Schiff 1 , which offers space for almost 2000 guests. The Full Metal Cruise V took place for the first time on Mein Schiff 2 . On board, the open-air stage on the pool deck, an indoor stage in the ship's theater and another, smaller stage in the casino are used by the performing bands. The bands that travel at least part of the route each perform once in the open air and once in the theater. There is no classic backstage area. Additional concerts took place up until the Full Metal Cruise 2 at the shore excursions, where local fans could mingle with the crusaders.

With a few exceptions, all drinks (including alcoholic ones) and meals on board are included in the travel price. The program on board is adapted to the target group, for example with free tattoos or metal karaoke. More than 100 tons of additional material will be used for the stages, lighting and sound.

Since 2011, heavy metal cruises have been taking place in the Caribbean according to a comparable concept under the title 70,000 Tons of Metal .

Full Metal Cruise I.

The first full metal cruise took place in 2013 and took seven days from Hamburg via Southampton , Le Havre and Amsterdam back to Hamburg. The arrival in Hamburg took place during the celebration of the Hamburg port birthday . Here the ship filled the party mile at the Landungsbrücken with the official full metal cruise anthem Hard on the Wind with the loudspeakers carried with 50,000 watts of music power . Due to the volume, some bands on land interrupted their performances for the time of entry. The trip was completely booked.

The Full Metal Cruise won the 2014 Sunday News Tourism Prize .

Full Metal Cruise II

The second Full Metal Cruise took place in April 2015 in the Mediterranean . She started in Palma and ran to Barcelona and Ibiza before returning to Palma de Mallorca. The cruise was sold out within two hours of the start of the booking.

Full Metal Cruise III

The third Full Metal Cruise also took place in 2015, but in August. It ran through the Baltic Sea from August 27 to 31, 2015 . Copenhagen and Gothenburg were headed for from Kiel , after which the journey ended in Hamburg. The trip sold out in less than an hour. Based on the feedback from the previous cruises, there were no more land concerts, but the time at sea was increased.

The fourth Full Metal Cruise took place from September 3rd to 8th, 2016. From Hamburg it went via Oslo and Copenhagen to Kiel . The trip was sold out again after a short time, although the advance booking was not announced in advance.

The fifth full metal cruise took place on Mein Schiff 2 from April 20 to 25, 2017. The trip was supposed to go from Palma to Gibraltar and Málaga before ending again in Palma. Gibraltar could not be called due to an unforeseen storm. The trip sold out in less than 30 minutes.
