Omnium Gatherum is a Finnish melodic death metal band. Bands from different styles are among her influences. B. At the Gates , Judas Priest or Katatonia .
Band history
The band was founded in autumn 1996 by Markus Vanhala and Olli Lappalainen.
In 1997 the first demo CD Forbidden Decay was produced, followed by the self-financed demos Omnium Gatherum (1998) and Gardens, Temples ... This Hell (1999). But it was not until the fourth demo, Wastrel (2001) with the new singer Antti Fillpu, that Omnium Gatherum got a record deal with the Rage of Achilles label . Shortly afterwards the debut EP Steal the Light was recorded.
Just a year later, the debut album Spirits and August Light was produced, which received critical acclaim and high ratings, and for which the first video Writhen was shot. After a label change to Nuclear Blast , the album Years in Waste was released in 2004 .
In 2006, Omnium Gatherum parted ways with the Nuclear Blast label, as well as with singer Antti Filppu. He was replaced by Jukka Pelkonen ( Elenium ). The third album, Stuck here on Snake's way , was released in April 2007.
In 2008 the album The Redshift was released , which debuted at number 24 in the Finnish album charts.
Shortly before the start of the European tour in 2009 with the bands Swallow the Sun and Insomnium , bassist Janne Markkanen left the band. He was replaced by Toni Mäki after he left.
On February 4th, 2011 the band released their fifth album, New World Shadows, under the label "Lifeforce Records".
In November 2011 the band went on tour in Europe within the Neckbreakers Ball. Only one year after the release of the last album in February 2012, the first basic structures for a new album were on the way. In July of the same year, the recordings began.
On September 24th, it was announced on the official homepage as well as on Facebook that the substitute bassist Eerik Purdon, who played in the band earlier and recently helped out on the tour and in the studio after Toni Mäki left the band in 2011, is now through the permanent bass player Erkki Silvennoinen was replaced. Erkki had previously been successful with the bands Amoral and Ari Koivunen .
After a successful tour in Japan, the sixth studio album Beyond was released on February 22, 2013 . The band began touring Finland on the day of the release. On August 30, 2013 the Beyond World Tour started in Europe. This is followed by appearances in Asia and the USA.
On April 9, 2020, the band announced further changes to the line-up. Then there is bassist Mikko Kivistö, while guitarist Joonas Koto leaves the band. He is temporarily represented by Jani Liimatainen and Nick Cordle.
