Amoral is a Finnish metal band from Helsinki . They started their career as a cover band, where they mainly covered thrash metal bands. In 2000 they began to write their own songs, with a focus on death metal . On the 2009 album Show Your Colors and the 2011 album Beneath , the band played melodic, technical and progressive heavy metal .

Band history

Amoral was originally a cover band that played songs from thrash metal bands. It was not until 2000 that Ben Varon, Silver Ots and Juhana Karlsson decided to create their own song material. The first singer was Matti Pitkänen who was initially replaced temporarily and then completely by Niko Kalliojärvi. Another early band member was Ville Sorvali from Moonsorrow . Amoral separated from him in May 2004 due to time problems.

In 2004 the band signed a recording contract with the British label Rage of Achilles Records , where they released their debut album Wound Creations, recorded in December 2003 at Sonic Pump Studios, on May 17, 2004. Shortly thereafter, the label had to file for bankruptcy. Amoral then received a new contract with Spinefarm subsidiary Spikefarm Records at the end of July , which re-released the debut album with a few bonus tracks in November 2004, whereupon it was also noticed by international scene magazines and received some good reviews. Including Metal Hammer (9/10) and Kerrang (KKKK). The bands Finntroll and Naglfar were then supported on their 31-concert European tour.

Shortly after her return to Finland, Amoral announced the next album, which was recorded in July 2005. Decrowning was released in Finland on October 4th of the same year and six days later in the rest of Europe. A video was also shot for the song "Lacrimal Gland". Another tour through Europe followed in February / March 2006 with Naglfar, Dark Funeral and Endstille or Asmodeus .

After numerous other concerts and festival appearances, the band took a short break before starting the five-week recording work for another album in the "Sound Supreme" studio in Hämeenlinna in February 2007 . The song Leave Your Dead Behind was pre-released as a download single on June 6th. On July 20, the band made the accompanying video available as a download on the label's website and on YouTube . A few days later it was announced that bassist Erkki Silvennoinen would leave the band in mid-August because of numerous side projects (including with Ari Koivunen ). His successor was initially not named. The album Reptile Ride , produced by Janne Saksa , was finally released on August 15, 2007 and rose to number 5 in the Finnish album charts the following week. A European tour with Norther and Drone took place in October.

In May 2009 the band released their fourth album Show Your Colors , which made it to number 19 on the Finnish charts. The album showed a clear cut in the direction of melodic, technical and progressive Heavy Metal and contained only a few elements of Death Metal . The singing had also become much clearer and higher. After the album was released, the band went on a European tour, where they also stopped in Germany .

In October 2011 the band released their fifth album Beneath . In autumn 2012 Amoral was on a European tour with Ensiferum and Profane Omen , and they also had a few appearances in Germany.

Amoral Fallen Leaves & Dead Sparrows released their sixth album on March 28, 2014 and received great reviews. The album was produced by Ben Varon and the vocals with the help of Marco Hietala ( Nightwish , Tarot ). In addition, Amoral will celebrate the 10th birthday of their first album in 2014.

On March 26, 2015, the band announced the return of former vocalist Niko Kalliojärvi on their Facebook page. He will now not only contribute vocals, but also play guitar.

On July 26, 2016, Amoral announced that it was time to break up the band. The reason for this are constantly conflicting schedules and the weak interest of some band members in tours.
