Ari Koivunen
Ari Mikael Koivunen (born June 7, 1984 in Kouvola ) is a Finnish singer who won the third season of Idols , a Finnish version of the talent show Pop Idol , in 2007 . Koivunen has been the singer of the Finnish metal band Amoral since 2008 .
Career
Ari Koivunen, also known in Finland as "Iso A" (capital A), grew up in Lahti , where he worked as a waiter, DJ and karaoke organizer in a bar after graduating from school . Before Idols , he had competed in other singing competitions. He won the Finnish Karaoke Championships in 2005 and came third at the Karaoke World Championships in the same year after Iyad Sfeir (Lebanon) and Danny Cummins (Ireland).
He secured his place in the final shows of Idols with the presentation of Billy Joel's Piano Man , which earned 86% of the audience's votes. From then on, he was particularly noticeable for the fact that he concentrated on songs from the metal and hard rock areas. This earned him some criticism from the jury during the final broadcasts. Nevertheless, he made it to the last final show, which took place on April 6, 2007 in Helsingin Jäähalli . On this show he presented Full Moon by Sonata Arctica , a song that he had already sung in the first preliminary round, then the Soundgarden hit Black Hole Sun selected by the jury and finally Still Loving You by the Scorpions . With this selection of songs he was able to prevail against Anna Abreu with 57% of the audience votes . He then performed the song On the Top of the World , composed especially for the show winner .
His win at Idols earned him € 30,000 and a record deal with Sony BMG . Nino Laurenne ( Thunderstone guitarist) and Pasi Heikkilä ( 45 Degree Woman bassist) produced his first album, to which some well-known Finnish metal musicians also contributed songs. a. Marco Hietala ( Our Beast ), Timo Tolkki ( Angels Are Calling ), Tony Kakko ( Losing My Insanity ) and Teräsbetoni singer Jarkko Ahola ( Stay True ). Hear My Call , which was released as the first single on May 11, 2007, was written by the two producers and the track Fuel for the Fire , which gave the album its name , was written by Janne Joutsenniemi (ex- Stone , Suburban Tribe ). On May 21, 2007 the album was released for download sales and was finally officially released on May 30, 2007. The album entered the Finnish album charts at number 1 during its first week on the market, a position it was able to maintain for twelve weeks. On June 7th - a week after its release - it had already reached platinum status with over 40,000 copies sold , followed by the second platinum record in October of the same year for 69,149 albums sold at that time. After 22 weeks, the album was no longer in the top 40 of the Finnish album charts at the beginning of November, but after the release of a special edition with live DVD on November 22nd, it returned several times in the following weeks, most recently at the end of January 2008 6th

At the beginning of March 2008, Ari Koivunen began working with Nino Laurenne on his second album, Becoming , which was released on June 11th and entered the Finnish album charts at number one that same week. After a week it reached gold status with 15,000 units sold. The song Give Me a Reason , which was released as a single shortly before and which was written by Laurenne, made it to number three in the single charts.
