Anna Eira Margarida Mourão de Melo e Abreu (born February 7, 1990 in Vantaa ), known as Anna Abreu or just Abreu , is a Finnish pop and R&B singer. She was best known in 2007 for her participation in the third season of Idols , a Finnish version of the talent show Pop Idol , in which she came second.

Career

Anna Abreu was born in 1990 as the second child of Paulo and Liisa Abreu. Her father is Portuguese and lives in Sintra , where Anna lived for some time as a small child. However, she has spent most of her life with her four years older brother Emil with her Finnish mother in Vantaa . She is a student at Sibelius-lukio , a school specializing in music and dance in Kruununhaka , Helsinki.

In 2006 she applied to take part in the third season of Idols, which took place in spring 2007. She secured her place in the final shows with the presentation of Broken von Seether feat. Amy Lee , who earned her 80% of the audience votes. In the last final show, however, she was defeated by Ari Koivunen , who prevailed against her with 57% of the audience vote. Nevertheless, she got a record deal with Sony BMG .

On June 26, 2007, their first single End of Love was presented by NRJ Finland , which subsequently reached number eight in the Finnish singles charts. Her self-named debut album, which reached platinum status , was released on August 22, 2007 . Anna Abreu entered the Finnish album charts at number one, displacing Ari Koivunen's debut, which had been at the top for twelve weeks. On December 20, 2007, the album received double platinum with over 86,000 units sold.

At the end of October 2007, their second single Ivory Tower was released , which entered the Finnish single charts at number five. In January 2008 she finally released a third single, Are You Ready , a cover version of the Australian girl group Shakaya .

At the Emma Gaala on March 8, 2008, Anna Abreu received the Emma as “Best Female Artist”. In addition, she was nominated in the categories of “Best Pop Album”, “Best Debut Album”, “Best Single” ( End of Love ) and for the audience award “Best Finnish Artist”.

Anna Abreu released her fourth single Vinegar on July 31, 2008 as a download and on August 6 on CD. The accompanying album Now followed on October 22, 2008. Both the album and the single reached number one in the Finnish charts, and the album went platinum in the same year for over 50,000 sales. According to statistics from IFPI Finland, it was the best-selling album in Finland in 2008 by a national artist.

On October 6, 2008, the promo single Silent Despair was also released.

At the beginning of 2009, her label Sony BMG announced that she would release her third album that same year. The single Music Everywhere from it was released on August 10th, and the album was released on October 21st under the title Just a Pretty Face? in Finnland. After just one day, the album received gold status for 23,000 units sold. It rose to number two on the Finnish album charts and became their third platinum album.

At the end of August 2010, Anna Abreu wrote on her Facebook page that she had started work on her fourth album, Rush . The first single, Hysteria , was released on January 10, 2011. The album was released on March 30 of that year and became the singer's third number one album. It was awarded a gold record in 2011.

In 2012 she announced a break from music. Before that, a greatest hits album was released and Anna Abreu went on her over & out farewell tour.

Already in autumn 2013 she reported back with the number 3 hit Kylmästä lämpimään . At the beginning of 2014 she was number 1 in the singles chart for the second time as a guest singer in Huominen on huomenna by the rap duo JVG . Her fifth studio album was released in the spring and entered the charts at number 4.
