Juhani Juice Leskinen  [ ˈjʊisɛ ˈlɛskinɛn ] (born February 19, 1950 in Juankoski ; † November 24, 2006 in Tampere ; formerly: Pauli Matti Juhani "Juice" Leskinen ) was one of the most famous Finnish folk and pop musicians. biography

Leskinen grew up in Juankoski in the eastern Finnish province of North Savo . In 1970 he moved to Tampere to study translation . However, three years later he began his musical career, which was so prioritized that he never finished his studies. In 1973 he released his debut LP with the band Coitus Int . Another album was created with the same line-up, before he released numerous other records in the next few years, partly alone, but partly with other band formations (e.g. Juice Leskinen Slam, Juice Leskinen Grand Slam). His main influences were John Lennon and Bob Dylan , but also Finnish artists such as Reino Helismaa , Jarko Laine , Eino Leino and Lauri Viita .

In the early 1990s he began to concentrate more on poetry. Nevertheless, despite his deteriorating health, he regularly published new albums. His last publication "Senaattori ja boheemi" (2004, Eng. The Senator and the Bohemian ) is again a collaboration with Mikko Alatalo , with whom he had already worked several times at the beginning of his career and who had meanwhile become a parliamentarian. It achieved gold status. In the same year he was voted 38th in the election of the 100 most important Finns .

On November 24, 2006, Leskinen died in Tampere Hospital of acute kidney failure , cirrhosis and diabetes . On December 9, 2006, the funeral service took place in the Alexander Church. He was buried in the Tampere cemetery.
