Matti Kalervo Pellonpää (born March 28, 1951 in Helsinki , † July 13, 1995 in Vaasa ) was a Finnish actor .

He began his career in 1962 as a radio play actor at the Finnish state broadcaster YLE . As an actor, he has worked in various amateur theaters since the early 1970s. During this time he trained at the Finnish Theater Academy, which he graduated in 1977.

In the 1980s, Matti Pellonpää became internationally known primarily through films by the brothers Aki and Mika Kaurismäki , in which he mostly played social outsiders.

In 1993 Matti Pellonpää was awarded the "Felix" of the European Film Academy as the best European actor of the year .

Matti Pellonpää died on July 13, 1995 of a heart attack .
