Since 2012 he has been successful both as a solo performer and as head of the band Ahola .
biography
Jarkko Ahola actually began his musical career on drums at the age of 13 . Since his first band JVS lacked a singer, he took over the vocal position. After the band changed their name to Tribunes , a demo was created , then the band broke up. A few months later, at the suggestion of his friend Antti Mäkelä, he joined his AC / DC- inspired band High Voltage as a singer. After four demo recordings there were no more band activities.
In 1996 Ahola founded the band Bulldozer together with Ville Lehtinen (now Ville Terämä), Kim Högberg and Tommi Takku , later a member was Heikki Malmberg ( Diablo ). At Bulldozer, Ahola also wrote some of her own songs for the first time. In addition to the release of two demos ("Bulldozer" and "Love / Hate"), the band also performed live several times and won a local competition. Around the end of 2000 the band broke up due to time constraints and personnel problems.
During the recording of "Love / Hate" Ahola met the sound engineer and guitarist Jami Katajisto, with whom he founded the acoustic duo Two . After several appearances, Two was converted into a rock band, Heikki Ahonen was taken on as drummer and Ahola took over the bass in addition to the vocals. In 2002 this band also broke up. About the same time that Two was founded, Jarkko Ahola reunited with Antti Mäkela and another member of High Voltage, Krisse Leppänen, to form a cover band called Helmisetti . Mäkela's friend Virpi Kamppuri also took over the vocals at times. Helmisetti still exists, the members meet every now and then for a few gigs. This was followed by a short guest appearance at the cover band Critical Mess , with whose bassist godfather Laitinen he founded another cover band X-tasy , which mainly covered hard rock hits, but soon broke up again. Also in 2002, together with Ville Terämä and Heikki Ahonen, the band Cosmic Spell was formed , which has previously made a demo recording and is currently on pause due to various other projects of the band members.
In addition to the various band projects, Jarkko Ahola also attempted a solo career in 2002. In April 2002 he published his first demo "Hold" with some rock songs, on which he played all the instruments himself and used an Amiga 1200 as a drum computer . Both the recording and the subsequent steps, such as mixing, took place at home on his computer. In September 2002 he released the demo "Blind", which was influenced by hard rock of the 1980s, again entirely on his own. A year later he finally brought out the demo "Down", which contained blues-rock songs and was inspired by David Coverdale's works.
In 2003 Jarkko Ahola received a request from the power metal band Dreamtale , who were looking for a new singer. With Dreamtale he recorded their third studio album "Difference", which was produced by Timo Tolkki and was released on April 25, 2005 on Spinefarm Records . Shortly after the release, he left the band to concentrate on other projects.
One of these own projects was the true metal band Teräsbetoni , which he founded with Arto Järvinen and Viljo Rantanen. With this he had received a record deal in 2004 with the major label Warner Music Group , where in 2005 the first album "Metallitotuus" was released, which entered the Finnish album charts at number two. With Teräsbetoni he has now released three albums and several singles, all of which found themselves on high chart positions and in the case of the first album even received a platinum record . In addition, the band took part in the Finnish qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest and won it, which is why Teräsbetoni represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade with the piece "Missä miehet ratsastaa".
In 2006 Jarkko Ahola joined the Raskasta Joulua project , in which members of various well-known Finnish bands - including Marco Hietala , Tony Kakko , Tanya Kemppainen ( Soulgrind , Ex- Lullacry ), Alexi Laiho , Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto ( Charon ), Antony Parviainen ( Machine Men ), Janne Parviainen ( Ensiferum ), Lauri Porra , Sammy Salminen ( Ancara ), Kari Tornack ( Thunderstone ) - Christmas carols are performed. In 2006 Warner Music released the second project compilation "Raskaampaa Joulua", on which Ahola sings the songs "Ilouutinen" and "En etsi valtaa, loistoa".
During one of the tours to Raskasta Joulua , the first plans arose to make further cover recordings together with Marco Hietala , Tony Kakko and Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto . In 2007 the four founded the band Northern Kings , whose first album " Reborn " contains cover versions of various hits from the 1980s.
At Christmas 2012 Ahola released his first solo album "Ave Maria", which made it to number 4 in the Finnish charts. The album contains Christmas songs such as “ Silent Night, Holy Night ” and interpretations of classical pieces such as “ Ave Maria ” and “ Nessun dorma ”.
