Gloryhammer is an international power metal band formed by the keyboardist and singer of the Scottish folk metal band Alestorm , Christopher Bowes. The first album, Tales from the Kingdom of Fife, was released on March 29, 2013 through Napalm Records . The band members each embody a character from the concept story that is told with this album.

history

Gloryhammer came up in 2009 as a project idea during a tour of the British bands Alestorm and Sorcerer's Spell . After the search for a suitable singer had taken several years, Christopher Bowes became aware of the front man of the Swiss heavy metal band Emerald , Thomas Winkler , through an internet video in mid-2011 . After he first turned down the offer due to other commitments, he decided after another request from Bowes at the end of the same year to join the band as a permanent singer. After Gloryhammer met for the first photo opportunity in London in spring 2012 , the band entered the “LSD recording studio” of producer Lasse Lammert in Lübeck , who had already worked for Alestorm, in mid-2012 . The band met again at the beginning of 2013 in Berlin , where they recorded a music video for their first single, Angus McFife , directed by Oliver Sommer (AVA Studios) .

On March 29, 2013, the debut album was released on the Napalm Records label, which is entitled Tales from the Kingdom of Fife . This refers to the content of the lyrics that tell the story of the (fictional) Scottish Crown Prince Angus McFife. According to the band's founder, Christopher Bowes, the concept will extend over 21 albums. Gloryhammer played her first festival appearance on the main stage of the Metaldays Festival 2013 (formerly Metalcamp ), which also featured genre actors such as King Diamond , Iced Earth and Sonata Arctica . Since then, the band has toured in countries around the world, such as Australia, the USA, England and Germany.

On September 25, 2015, the second studio album was released under the title Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards , which carries the story of the debut a thousand years into the future into 1992. The album entered the official charts in several countries and helped the band to tour with bands like Stratovarius , Blind Guardian and Hammerfall . On May 16, 2017, Gloryhammer was nominated by the international music magazine Metal Hammer as the best band in the "Up & Coming" category for the Metal Hammer Awards 2017. In January 2018 the band embarked on a headlining tour through Europe, which consisted of 24 shows with eleven sold out dates.

On July 18th, 2018 Gloryhammer was nominated for the second time in a row by the music magazine Metal Hammer as the best band in the category "Up & Coming" for the Metal Hammer Awards. On May 31, 2019, the band released their third studio album, Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex , which reached number six in the German and eighth in the Swiss album charts and also made it into the album charts in Austria, Scotland and Belgium. In the UK, the album debuted at number three on the national rock & metal charts and in the US, Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terror Vortex was at number two on the Billboard Heatseekers chart .
