Hammercult is an Israeli death and thrash metal band from Tel Aviv that was formed in 2010. The band won the Metal Battle at Wacken Open Air in 2011 and signed with Sonic Attack Records that same year .

history

The band was founded in December 2010 by Yakir Shochat (vocals), Maayan Henik ( drums ) as well as Elad Manor ( electric bass ) and Arie Aranovich ( electric guitar ) and made their first appearance on December 25, 2010 in Be'er Scheva , Israel. In 2011, guitarist Guy Ben David from the band Demented Sanity joined them. They released their first single Black Horseman in 2011 , which was made freely available on the internet.

In April 2011 the band took part in the Metal Battle concerts of the Wacken Foundation in Israel and were able to prevail over the other participants. With that they won the metal battle at Wacken Open Air 2011. Shortly before taking part there, they released their EP Rise of the Hammer . At the Wacken Open Air they won against the international competition and were equipped with new instruments.

Just a few days before the Wacken Open Air it became known that the band had signed for the German label Sonic Attack Records and in November they went on a European tour as the support band for the Dirty Rotten Imbeciles (DRI). In April 2012 they released their debut album Anthems of the Damned on Sonic Attack Records. The album was produced by Arie Aranovich and mixed by Jacob Bredahl , the former singer of the band Hatesphere . With the release of the album, Guy Ben David left the band and was replaced by guitarist Yotam Nagor. According to Shochat, the sounds of Shalom Alechem and Christmas carols used on the album are a tribute to Accept , whose track Fast As A Shark also includes a folk song. The album was well received in the metal scene, in the review of the Metal Hammer it received 5 out of 7 points and was described as an “independent debut worth listening to”, and the “aggressive and fast songs bridge the gap between modern Thrash rhythms and melodic- colorful death reef ”.

Hammercult performed again at Wacken Open Air in 2012 with the album and last year's winner. They also went on a European tour with Sepultura in 2012 .

In 2014 the band was accompanied by Alex von Alpha Tiger on their tour with Napalm Death , some festival shows and a two-week headlining tour.
