Evil Invaders is a Belgian thrash and speed metal band from Leopoldsburg that was founded in 2007.

history

The band was formed in 2007. The name was the same name Razor borrowed song can. Founding member Johannes "Joe" Van Audenhove is now the only remaining original member, by 2009 the first line-up had been found. The first performance was also held at the beginning of 2009. After a first demo under the name D-emokill (2009), a self-titled EP followed in 2013 . After the EP was released, the band held national and international appearances. In 2013 the band played on the Keep It True . In 2014 and 2015 the band held four European tours with Destruction , Majesty , Skull Fist and Lost Society as well as two tours through Japan and they could be seen at festivals such as Party.San , Graspop Metal Meeting , Pukkelpop and Out and Loud . At the beginning of 2015, the debut album Pulses of Pleasure followed via Napalm Records . The band consists of the singer and guitarist Johannes "Joe" Van Audenhove, the guitarist Sam Lemmens, the drummer Senne Jacobs and the bassist Max Maxheim aka Max Mayhem, who joined the cast in December 2014. Three concerts were held for the release, attended by over 1,500 people. In 2016 the band was represented at the Summer Breeze and a tour through Europe with Suicidal Angels , Mortillery and Skull Fist was held. After a 2016 EP In for the Kill , the second album Feed Me Violence followed in 2017, again via Napalm Records . In the same year the band could be seen at the Metal Hammer Paradise , the Metaldays , the Bang Your Head and again at the Graspop Metal Meeting. In 2018 the group took part in the Wacken Open Air .

style

laut.de found that the band " Annihilator competes in their best days". On the debut album, the band plays classic Thrash Metal, which is heavily based on the sound from the San Francisco Bay Area . According to the band itself, they are based on the early Metallica , before the release of Kill 'Em All , when Dave Mustaine was still in the band. She also described her music as a mixture of Heavy Metal , Thrash Metal, Speed Metal, New Wave of British Heavy Metal , Mercyful Fate , Iron Maiden , WASP , Overkill , Old School and New School. According to James Christopher Monger of Allmusic , the band plays a mix of Thrash and Speed Metal that has been influenced by bands like Motörhead , Exodus , Black Sabbath , Slayer , Death and early Metallica. In an interview with Markus Endres from Metal.de , Johannes Van Audenhove stated that the band played a mix of heavy , speed and thrash metal that was based on the style of the 1980s. On Songwriting all members are equally involved. The members would usually record things at home, then send them to each other and then discuss things together in rehearsals. He writes the texts, whereby they are mostly an expression of his feelings in certain life moments.

Oliver Weinsheimer from Rock Hard wrote in his review of the self-titled EP that you can hear classic Speed Metal on it, which is "adorned with borderline dubious texts and amusing musician's pseudonyms". The vocals are a mixture of John Gallagher ( Raven ) and Dan Beehler ( Exciter ). In a later issue Thomas Kupfer described Pulses of Pleasure as "[F] rian Speed Metal of the rather brutal kind", which contains a riff density that reminds one of Exodus. Also characteristic are "melodious Maiden memory leads and a" Fuck you! "- old-school attitude". You feel reminded of Agent Steel several times , but Evil Invaders is less filigree and much more uncompromising. As a singer, he described Van Audenhoven as "a Krakeeler [...] who is immediately given a palette of canned beer if he brings this power and determination to the boards live". Wolfgang Liu Kuhn also reviewed the album in the same issue. He also assigned it to speed metal.

Especially Johannes "Joe" Van Audenhove's vocals (here at the Party.San Open Air 2015) are controversial with several reviewers

He was particularly impressed by the riffs, which would combine the best moments of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and add "a youthful freshness" to it. As a result, the music is as rousing and inspiring as early Exodus releases. However, he was less impressed by the vocals, which recalled "the worst sputum from a prepubescent Mille Petrozza who just got too many King Diamond into it". In addition, it is an "over-the-top [s] and variationless [s] helium screeching". The lyrics are questionable and would resemble "Kalauer-Hymnen" like Anal Lust from Exhorder . In a later issue Wolfram Küper discussed In for the Kill and noted that Evil Invaders is a similarly undervalued speed and thrash metal band as After All and Bliksem . The group moves on the dividing line between the two genres. Sebastian Schilling from the same magazine stated in his review of Feed Me Violence that the vocals still take getting used to, as Van Audenhoven tends to raise his voice at the beginning or end of the line. Otherwise the album breathes the "spirit of the eighties [...] without spreading a dusty retro atmosphere" and contains energetic Speed Metal, which is not lacking in "strong riffs and cool solos ". In an interview with Mandy Malon one issue later, Van Audenhoven said that the band doesn't consciously think about finding a balance between innovation and tradition. Feed Me Violence is more than a mixture of Heavy, Thrash and Speed Metal, elements from Doom and Progressive Metal have now been incorporated.

Katrin Riedl from Metal Hammer also reviewed Feed Me Violence and said that it contained a rough mixture of speed and thrash metal, which "especially vocally has some over-the-top moments", "with old-school charm" and played with a lot of enthusiasm.
