Exhorder is an American metal band from New Orleans , Louisiana . Exhorder are considered to be the inventors of groove- oriented Thrash Metal , a style that became known in the 1990s through bands like Pantera and Machine Head .
history
Exhorders were founded in 1985. A year later, the Get Rude demo was recorded and Mean Machine signed them. Two years later, Exhorder entered the studio to record their debut album. However, Mean Machine has to file for bankruptcy so that parts of the recordings can be released as demo. Eventually Roadrunner Records signed the band and their debut album Slaughter in the Vatican was released in 1990. The band's tough, aggressive Thrash finds many friends. The cover on which the Pope is dragged to the gallows causes protests from various corners. After a European tour, bassist Andy Villafarra quits. He is replaced by Frank Sparcella.
The second album, The Law, was released in 1992 and became a milestone in Thrash Metal. At the latest on this album it becomes clear that the new sound of Pantera (from Cowboys from Hell ) is clearly inspired by Exhorder. Exhorder tour North America with Entombed . They are financially cheated by the manager of the Swedes. Exhorder then break off the tour and prefer to travel through Europe a second time. They are barely supported by Roadrunner, so exhorders break up in frustration.
Thomas almost joins Corrosion of Conformity , but then decides to start his own band Penalty . Penalty have to rename themselves to Floodgate for legal reasons . In 1996 the Floodgate debut Penalty was released , with which the band toured Europe with Sepultura . Thomas also stepped in briefly as the singer of the band Trouble and Alabama Thunderpussy and can be heard on the album Roadrunner United . Jay Ceravolo was still active in the band Fall From Grace . No other projects are known from the other musicians.
Exhorders have been active again since spring 2008.
