Maglič ( Serbian - Cyrillic Маглич ) is a medieval fortress in southwest Serbia . It is located on a mountain above the valley of the Ibar River near Kraljevo and Vrnjačka Banja . The complex, which was probably built in the 13th century, was the residence of the Serbian Archbishop Danilo II (1324-1337) with the residential palace and St. George's Church. The fortress is protected on three sides by a bend in the river and on the fourth by an artificial moat and secured Raszien (the Raška) against the Hungarians in the north. The mighty walls with seven square defense towers and a hexagonal donjon are well preserved .
