Tom Angelripper (born February 19, 1963 in Gelsenkirchen ; actually Thomas Such ) is a German metal musician. He is the singer and bass player for the thrash metal band Sodom .

biography

Tom Angelripper initially worked as a miner: "There was only one way to earn real money: go to the colliery [...] My uncle went out with me, and I could start the next Monday, no one wanted to see certificates or something like that." The wages of 500 DM in the first year of the apprenticeship, which were reasonable for the time, “flowed almost exclusively into the metal hobby and relativized the efforts underground. 'Metal was religion for us . I had 30 men in the vocational school class, nobody but me knew Motörhead and I didn't care. '”Angelripper became a trained pit fitter and as such worked ten years underground. The demo recording by the band Venom inspired him to become a musician in 1980. In 1982 he founded the band Sodom . After the success of the third Sodom album Agent Orange , he gave up his job underground and became a professional musician; in the meantime, however, he describes the music business as “hard bread”, which has disappointed him immensely and which he “cannot recommend to any young man. The elbow society and the competitive pressure have also carried over here. ”In the solo project under his stage name Tom Angelripper, later also as Uncle Tom, he initially devoted himself to the processing of hits and drinking songs , but increasingly also his own compositions in the metal style, the mostly praise the alcohol .

Tom Angelripper was hired by Alex Kraft for the debut album The Dawn of Dying for the western and country- style band Dezperadoz , which according to Alex Kraft led to the misunderstanding that it was an "Uncle Tom project". Angelripper had to leave the band because he didn't have enough time because of Sodom and Uncle Tom. Most recently, Tom Angelripper only sang the song Ring of Fire , originally by Johnny Cash , as a guest.

The Onkel-Tom double album Nunc est bibendum in, except for Alex Kraft, a new line-up was released in 2011.

In 2011 and 2014 Tom Angelripper could be seen both with his band Sodom and with his solo project Onkel Tom at the Wacken Open Air .

Angelripper is married with a daughter and a son.
