Iron Savior is a power metal - band from Hamburg , created in 1996 initially as a project of Piet Sielck , Kai Hansen and Stauch Thomen was founded. Her lyrics are mostly about science fiction topics.

Stylistically, the band's music is typical Power Metal, comparable to Gamma Ray or Helloween .

Band history

Iron Savior was founded in 1996 by Piet Sielck , who previously appeared in the metal scene as the producer of Uriah Heep , Gamma Ray , Saxon and Blind Guardian . For his self-titled debut album he hired Thomen Stauch (at the time with Blind Guardian) and Kai Hansen from Gamma Ray. The solo project signed with Noise Records . With an improvised line-up (Jan-S. Eckert on bass and Andreas Kück on keyboards), the band played on the Wacken and a tour with Edguy as the opening act, which was still quite unknown at the time.

Then Dan Zimmermann (Gamma Ray) came for Stauch, who was busy with Blind Guardian. The album Unification and three extended plays were released with this line-up . Unification reached number 79 on the German album charts . In 2001, after a tour with Running Wild as a special guest and a headlining tour with Nocturnal Rites and Labyrinth as support acts, Kai Hansen left, who concentrated on Gamma Ray. However, he is still a guest on Dark Assault (2001). Joachim “Piesel” Küstner ( Lacrimosa ) came for him . In addition, Thomas Nack joined the band as a permanent drummer. In 2002, Condition Red was the first work without Hansen's involvement. The band will play their next gigs with guitarist Uwe Lulis (ex- Grave Digger ). As with Iron Maiden , there were three guitarists on stage.

In 2003 the band paused a little because Sielck married for the second time and was also very active as a producer. Before the 2004 album Battering Ram left Jan-S. Eckert the band to concentrate on the master plan . Yenz Leonhardt (Lacrimosa) filled his place . It was the last album to be released through NOISE / Sanctuary. Sielck's own independent label Dockyard 1 was founded shortly afterwards. After Battering Ram the band paused so that Sielck had time for his label, where Lake of Tears and Abandoned were among others under contract. He also founded the band Savage Circus with his old companion Stauch after Stauch left the Blind Guardian.

In 2007 Megatropolis was finally released as the first and only Iron Savior release under Dockyard 1. Shortly afterwards, however, he had to close his label Dockyard 1 and disappeared from the spotlight for several years. After four years of silence, he found a new label with AFM Records and released the eighth studio album The Landing there .

Rise of the Hero followed in 2014, and for the first time since Unification it was ranked 76th in the chart. In 2015 Iron Savior released Megatropolis 2.0 , the "makeover" of the 2007 studio album and the live DVD "Live At The Final Frontier". In 2016 the album Titancraft was released at number 62 in the charts. In 2017 the best of album "Reforged - Riding On Fire", consisting of newly recorded Noise-Era songs, was released. For legal reasons, a new publication of the NOISE catalog is only possible in this way. In 2019 the most successful album to date "Kill Or Get Killed" was released with number 54 in the German LP charts.

Music style and lyrics

Iron Savior play melodic Power Metal, which is typical for German bands like Gamma Ray, early Blind Guardian and Helloween. The vocals are a bit rougher and not as high as in similar bands. Piet Sielck was particularly influenced by Judas Priest , who often covered Iron Savior, especially at the beginning. In addition to these bands, Rhapsody and Queensrÿche are occasionally mentioned as comparables. Sielck is also a big science fiction fan. The concept of the band is about a spaceship, the so-called Iron Savior (Eng. "Iron Savior"), which took off from the legendary Atlantis when the earth was about to set. The last survivors are gathered on the spaceship. Sielck sponn a complex storyline that continued from album to album. Up until Battering Ram , all albums were concept albums . It was only since 2004 that he broke away from the self-chosen corset.

At the beginning it was clearly about his solo project, most of the songs were written by him, he was the main singer and also took on many guitar and bass parts. It was only with the entry of Jan-Sören Eckert, Joachim Küstner and Yenz Leonhardt, who actively participated in the songwriting , that Iron Savior became more and more of a band.
