Thomas "Thomen" Stauch (born March 11, 1970 in Krefeld ) is a German drummer . From its inception until 2005 he played with the metal band Blind Guardian . He was also involved in the bands Iron Savior , Heavenward and - as a founding member - Savage Circus . Most recently he played with Coldseed , Seelenzorn and Serious Black .

His stage name "Thomen" is a Portmanteau word , consisting of his first name "Thomas" and "The Omen".

Musical career

Stauch began an apprenticeship as a roofer in his father's company , but did not complete it. He cites his passion for rock music , which he discovered during this time, as the reason for this , along with the desire to play in a band himself. In 1983 Stauch took guitar lessons from André Olbrich, later the guitarist of Blind Guardian , but showed little talent. One day when he sat down on the drums for fun in the rehearsal room, he was encouraged to switch to this instrument. A short time later, the band Lucifer's Heritage was founded, which was renamed the Blind Guardian in 1987 . Thomen Stauch played in the band for 20 years and left the group in 2005 due to musical differences.

In the same year, he and Piet Sielck founded the band Savage Circus , with the aim of returning to the old Blind Guardian style. The first album was released on August 29, 2005 under the title Dreamland Manor . At the same time Stauch started with the band Coldseed , in which, among others, the Blind Guardian guest musicians Michael Schüren (keyboard) and Oliver Holzwarth (bass), as well as Soilwork singer Björn Strid participate. The debut album Completion Makes the Tragedy was released on June 30, 2006.

After the release of the Savage Circus debut album Dreamland Manor , Stauch took a break due to health problems. During this time, he was replaced by the Iron Savior drummer Thomas Nack. On August 17, 2007, the remaining members of Savage Circus declared Stauch dismissed because they believed it out of the question that he would be operational again in the foreseeable future. The main stumbling block was the cancellation of the Japan tour in 2006, which the band had to complete without him, and the cancellation of two festival shows in 2007. The announcement was made publicly on the band's website without informing Stauch personally beforehand, which led to disputes .

Stauch is currently working on several smaller projects and was the permanent drummer of the NDH band Seelenzorn from Darmstadt from 2008 to 2009 .

In mid-2012, Savage Circus announced on the band's official Facebook page that Thomen was returning as a permanent drummer. Since then the band has been working on their third studio album. At the end of 2012, Stauch recorded the third Stormrider album The Path of Salvation as a session drummer .

He was one of the founding members of the band Serious Black, whose debut album As Daylight Breaks was released on January 20, 2015 via AFM Records .

Instruments

Thomen Stauch plays a Premier Gen X drum set with Paiste cymbals , Gibraltar racks and DW foot pedals . He uses Vic Firth 5B sticks as drum sticks .
