Peter Skalicky (born April 25, 1941 in Berlin ) is an Austrian physicist and former rector of the Technical University of Vienna .

Life

After completing his school education (Protestant elementary school on Karlsplatz, which was then located in Hamburgerstrasse and then Rainergymnasium) with the Matura in Vienna , he began studying technical physics at the Technical University of Vienna . He wrote his dissertation on X-ray topography of single crystals . In 1972 Skalicky received the Fritz Kohlrausch Prize for a thesis on X - ray polarization optics that he had carried out in Paris.

After his habilitation thesis, which he submitted in 1973 on the subject of "crystal physics", he became associate professor for crystal physics at the TU Vienna. From 1979 he was full professor for applied physics at the Vienna University of Technology. From 1989 to 1990 he was dean of the technical and natural sciences faculty of the Vienna University of Technology.

In 1991 Skalicky was elected rector of the Vienna University of Technology . From 1995 to June 1999, Skalicky was also the chairman of the Austrian Rectors' Conference . In 2004 he was appointed Officier des Ordre national du Mérite in France . Since September 2010 he has also been a member and deputy chairman of the Council for Research and Technology Development .

On September 30, 2011, the twenty-year term of rector of Peter Skalicky at the Vienna University of Technology ended. He was followed by Sabine Seidler became the first woman in the office of Rector of the Technical University of Vienna.

In September 2012, Skalicky was appointed by the Senate of the Montanuniversität Leoben as a member of the University Council for the period from 2013 to 2018.
