Kurt Komarek

Kurt Ludwig Komarek (born June 23, 1926 in Vienna ; † May 18, 2016 ) was an Austrian chemist and rector of the University of Vienna .

Life

Komarek initially worked from 1950 to 1953 in the research department of the Treibacher Chemische Werke in Carinthia, and from 1953 to 1966 he taught at New York University . In 1966 he was appointed to the University of Vienna , until 1994 he was university professor and head of the Institute for Inorganic Chemistry , in 1974 and 1975 additionally dean of the Philosophical Faculty and from 1977 to 1979 rector of the University of Vienna.

Komarek was a real member of the mathematical and natural science class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

From 1982 to 1991 he was President of the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research (FWF).
