Sabine Seidler (born August 29, 1961 in Sangerhausen ) is a German-Austrian materials scientist . Since October 1, 2011, she has been Rector of the Vienna University of Technology and since January 1, 2020, President of the Austrian University Conference .

Life

The native German studied from 1979 to 1984 at the Technical University of Leuna-Merseburg . In 1989 she received her doctorate in materials science and moved to the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , where she worked at the Institute for Materials Science for seven years. In 1996 she was appointed professor at the Vienna University of Technology. From 2007 to 2011 she was Vice Rector for Research in Peter Skalicky's Rectorate . On March 4, 2011, she was elected the first female rector of the Vienna University of Technology. In July 2013 Sabine Seidler took over the presidency of the Association of Technical Universities in Austria. In June 2014, Seidler was re-elected for a second four-year term as rector of the Vienna University of Technology until the end of September 2019, and in May 2018 for a third term until 2023.

In December 2019, she was elected as the successor to Eva Blimlinger or (interim) Oliver Vitouch as President of the Austrian University Conference from January 2020.

Sabine Seidler's research interests lie in the field of plastics diagnostics, fracture mechanics and structure-property relationships in plastics.

She is married and has two kids.
