Werner Biffl

Werner Biffl (born October 30, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian hydraulic engineer and professor emeritus . From 1981 to 1985 and from 1989 to 1991 he was rector of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). From 2008 to 2018 he was chairman of the BOKU University Council .

Life

1957-1964 Werner Biffl studied Environmental Engineering at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, where he in 1966 and received his doctorate and in the field of the 1971 settlement hydraulic engineering and water conservation habilitated . In 1974 he was appointed full professor at BOKU, and until his retirement in July 2000 he headed the Institute for Water Management .

In 1981 he succeeded Manfried Welan as rector of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna , in 1985 he was replaced by Hubert Sterba in this position. From 1989 to 1991 he acted again as rector, during this time he was also chairman of the Austrian rectors' conference . He gave guest lectures at the Technical University of Dresden , the Universidade Federal do Paraná and the Universidade Federal do Ceará in Fortaleza.

From 1987 to 1990 he was also President of the Austrian Water and Waste Management Association , from 1986 to 1992 he was a member of the University Institutions project group in Lower Austria , head of the working group for the establishment and expansion of university studies in Lower Austria and chairman of the commission for the inter- university department for agrobiotechnology Tulln (IFA Tulln). From 1995 to 1999 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Danube University Krems . From 2002 to 2005 he acted as coordinator and head of the flood platform at the Lower Austrian State Academy .

From 2008 to February 2018 he was chairman of the BOKU University Council .
