The area of the former production workshop of Austria Tabakwerke in Dr.-Karl-Dorrek-Strasse in Krems an der Donau was selected as the location . The State Academy has been concerned with the future since it was founded. Its original purpose was to prepare a new style university in Lower Austria, which was achieved with the opening of the Danube University Krems in 1995. In the course of a budget meeting of the state club of the ÖVP Lower Austria in early June 2016, it was decided to dissolve the state academy. On June 16, 2016, the state parliament of Lower Austria passed the dissolution of the Lower Austrian State Academy ( repeal of the law on a Lower Austrian State Academy 1995 LGBl. 5100 ). The repeal came into force on January 1, 2017. Instead, on the initiative of Friedrich Faulhammer , a private foundation was set up in the form of a think tank for the challenges of the future.
