St. Pölten cultural district

The cultural district of St. Pölten is part of the country house district of St. Pölten , which only came into being in the period after St. Pölten became the state capital . At the same time as the government district, which is home to the provincial government and parliament of the federal state of Lower Austria , numerous cultural institutions were also created.

The cultural district was also planned as part of the urban planning competition. The beginning of planning goes back to 1993 and lasted until 1998. Construction began in 1994. Architects who were involved in it were Ernst Hoffmann , Hans Hollein , Paul Katzberger , Klaus Kada , Karin Bily and Michael Loudon .

Facilities

The landmark that can be seen from afar is the sound tower . The Festspielhaus St. Pölten houses the Tonkünstler Orchestra .

State institutions are the State Museum , the State Library and the State Archives with the affiliated Institute for Regional Studies . The state academy was also located here until it closed in 2017.

The ORF also has its ORF regional studio for Lower Austria in the cultural district.
