Somewhere Far Beyond is the fourth album by the German metal band Blind Guardian . The production lasted from March to May 1992, the recording was made in the Karo Studio Brackel near Hamburg. The album was released on June 29th. As with the previous album, the cover artwork was designed by Andreas Marschall . On this album, Hansi Kürsch played bass, later he concentrated exclusively on singing.
The album is described by many fans as the band's best release, with which they further turned away from the original style and developed their own style of music. Probably the most famous song of the band, the ballad "The Bard's Song - In the Forest" is on this album. At the band's concerts it is mostly sung by the fans alone. The song is a ballad, the lyrics of which are inspired by the works of JRR Tolkien . The following song "The Bard's Song - The Hobbit" deals specifically with Tolkien's The Hobbit . "The Quest for Tanelorn" is based on Michael Moorcock's saga of the eternal hero. “Time What Is Time” deals with the theme of the film Blade Runner or its novel “ Do androids dream of electric sheep? ". “Somewhere Far Beyond” covers the first two volumes of Stephen King's The Dark Tower Saga.
The two bonus songs " Spread Your Wings " ( Queen ) and "Trial by Fire" ( Satan ) are both cover versions . Kai Hansen plays the lead guitar on “The Quest for Tanelorn” .
