A Twist in the Myth is the eighth studio album by the German metal band Blind Guardian . It was recorded from September 2005 to April 2006 at Twilight Hall Studios in Grefrath and released on September 1, 2006.

History of origin

Longtime drummer and co-founder of Blind Guardian, Thomen Stauch left the band in 2005 because of disagreements over music. After leaving, he devoted himself to his power metal band Savage Circus , which he founded in 2004 , with which he takes up the style of the Blind Guardian album Imaginations From the Other Side .

Musically, Blind Guardian takes a further step in a new direction, even if “Carry The Blessed Home” is reminiscent of old works. Especially the song Fly , which was released as a single beforehand, was discussed many times among the fans of the band because of the new sound, which now also contains Thrash elements.

In terms of production, the band took a few steps back. According to Hansi Kürsch, the album “maybe still contains 60% of the tracks from“ A Night at the Opera . The perfection rage of the previous album was pushed in a rather simpler direction again, although the production is still much more complex than that of the albums before A Night at the Opera .

The cover artwork this time comes from Anthony Clarkson, who convinced the band with his work for Hypocrisy and One Man Army and the Undead Quartet . The artwork has parallels to the Imaginations from the Other Side album. Individual motifs are taken up again.

Contributors

The bass was played as a guest musician by Oliver Holzwarth, who has worked several times in the past. The choir passages were sung by Olaf Senkbeil, Rolf Köhler and Thomas Hackmann. It is also the first album on which the new drummer Frederik Ehmke participated. The keyboard programming was done by Martin G. Meyer and Pat Benzner. The music was written by Olbrich and Kürsch, the lyrics are by Hansi Kürsch.

successes

After its release, the CD entered the German charts at number 4 and stayed in the Top 100 for 7 weeks. After the album was released, Blind Guardian began their “A Twist In The Myth Tour”, which ran from Europe to North America to East Asia , led back to Europe and ended on November 10, 2007 in Krefeld.
