DAD , formerly known as Disneyland After Dark (the name had to be changed due to an impending lawsuit by the Walt Disney Company ), is a Danish rock band from Copenhagen . Their style of music is often described as melodic heavy rock. Depending on their creative period, the band also wrote or wrote “DAD”, “D • A • D” or “D: A: D”.

history

The band started their career at the beginning of the 1980s in Copenhagen , then still under the name Disneyland After Dark . The name stems from an idea by Stig Pedersen that anything can happen when the lights go out in Disneyland. In his opinion, this reflected the music of his band. The first line-up included Jesper Binzer (guitar), Stig Pedersen (bass), Peter Lundholm Jensen (drums) and Pedersen's girlfriend Lene Glumer (vocals). This was pushed out of the band after only one concert, as the rest of the members felt that she did not suit them. The vocals were done by Pedersen and Binzer, who eventually became the band's lead singer. His younger brother Jacob Binzer joined as the second guitarist in March 1984.

The band achieved their international breakthrough with their LP No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims , released in 1989 . Following a world tour, which also took place in the USA , the Walt Disney Company became aware of the band and enforced a court order that the term Disneyland could no longer be used. From now on the band operated under the name DAD or D: A: D , meanwhile rewritten as the internet- friendly DAD .

The band has a large fan base in Scandinavia and plays club tours with several thousand spectators. You are also one of the headliners of the Roskilde Festival at the gates of Copenhagen every year and have up to 50,000 spectators and listeners there. The band played the biggest concert as the opening act for the Böhsen Onkelz at their farewell festival on June 17, 2005 in front of over 120,000 spectators on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz .

In 2008 the band released the album Monster Philosophy . In Germany, the 3R Entertainment label took over the distribution of the record, which was founded by Böhse Onkelz member Stephan Weidner . He took the group on a support tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2009 with his solo project Der W. In the same year DAD also played at Wacken Open Air . In 2010 there followed appearances at a few smaller festivals and a short tour through Germany. On November 14th 2011 the 11th studio album of the band was released with Dic.Nii.Lan.Daft.Erd.Ark . After a long break, the 12th studio album A prayer for the loud was released in May 2019 , and in August 2019 the group played again at Wacken Open Air.

Band members

Jesper Binzer

Binzer was born in Copenhagen . He was one of the founders of the band in 1982. He played drums in the band The Whiteouts and wrote a song for the Danish film Bleeder .

Jacob Binzer

Jesper Binzer's younger brother, nicknamed Cobber, comes from Frederiksberg . He started making music with the piano, but then switched to the guitar. He has been with DAD since 1984.

Stig Pedersen

  • Born on May 18, 1965
  • Instruments: bass , lead vocals and backing vocals.

Pedersen comes from Amager . He played in a punk band called ADS when he was young. To show the band members of ADS that they had made a mistake by being expelled, he founded DAD. He also played in the band Hellbetty. In the late 1980s he discovered that he only used the E and A strings when playing bass, and he made it his trademark to use special visually appealing basses that he designed himself.

Luscious sun

Sonne is also from Frederiksberg and has been a member of the group since 1999. He also plays in the bands Dear and Bugpowder.
