Savage Messiah is an English heavy and thrash metal band from London that was formed in 2007.

history

The band was formed in early 2007 by singer and guitarist Dave Silver after his previous band Headless Cross broke up. In October of the same year, the debut album Spitting Venom followed on his own label SMR Productions, the sound carrier being produced by Andy Faulkner ( Bolt Thrower , Siam ). Almost all instruments and the vocals were recorded by Silver himself. The live cast was guitarist James Tyler, bassist Chris O'Toole and drummer Pete Hunt (ex- Marshall Law and Razor of Occam ). Then Candlelight Records became aware of the band and signed them in early 2009.

By then, the line-up around Silver had completely changed. Since Tyler did not want to go to a concert in Glasgow and announced this decision to the other members at one in the morning on the day of the performance, he was no longer in the band. O'Toole left the band to move to the US and Hunt left the band. The band then consisted of the guitarist Sy Taplin, the bassist Sasha Cron and the drummer Ernie Nogara in addition to Silver. The band then went to the studio with producer Chris Tsangarides , who had already worked for bands like Judas Priest , Black Sabbath and Biomechanical , to record the album Insurrection Rising , which was released in late 2009. In 2010, the band went along with Overkill on European tour and played in the UK along with Evile . She also played with Death Angel , Queensrÿche , Skeletonwitch , Sylosis and Onslaught and performed at Bloodstock Open Air , Hammerfest , Devilstone Open Air and Hellfire Festival. The band also played with Overkill, Suicidal Angels and Cripper in Braunschweig .

In addition, the band switched to Earache Records , which released the album Plague of Conscience in 2012 . The album was produced by Scott Atkins . In addition to Silver, the album featured Stefano Selvatico as the new bassist, Mauricio Chamucero as the new drummer and Joff Baile as the new guitarist. In September 2012, the band shot a music video for the song All Seeing I. In the summer of 2013 the band began recording their next album. At the time, the band consisted of Silver, guitarist Joff Bailey, bassist Stefano Selvatico and drummer Andrea Gorio. The third studio album The Fateful Dark was released in March 2014. At the beginning of 2015, the band Amon Amarth accompanied them on their European tour. A year later the band played at the Download Festival and ProgPower USA .

In August 2017, Savage Messiah were signed by the German record label Century Media . Again there were changes in line-up within the group. Guitarist Joff Bailey and bassist Stefano Selvatico left the group and were replaced by Sam S. Junior and Mira Slama, respectively. The fourth studio album Hands of Fate was released on October 27, 2017 and was produced by Scott Atkins. The album Demons followed on May 17, 2019 .

style

According to laut.de , Insurrection Rising sounds a lot like bands like Testament and Megadeth , with the vocals in particular reminding me of Dave Mustaine . Marc Halupczok from Metal Hammer said in his review of Insurrection Rising that the band was “the second British hope for Thrash” next to Evile. The guitar riffs would occasionally be reminiscent of Exodus , but the music sounds more catchy and sounds like a mix of early Annihilator , Testament, Megadeth and Artillery . Silver's singing would sometimes reach "breakneck heights". In songs like The Serpent Tongue of Divinity , Vigil of the Navigator or Silent Empire , a mixture of heavy and thrash metal can be heard. On Plague of Conscience, according to Halupczok, the band is turning back the Thrash Metal influences a little and relying a little more on traditional Metal. The music is most likely to be compared to more recent Megadeth releases, although Silver's vocals are clearer.
