In 2004 the guitarists Christian Bröhenhorst and Jonathan Stenger got to know each other, both of whom studied in Hildesheim . At the end of 2004 the singer Britta Görtz joined them. The first line-up was completed in early 2005 by bassist Erik Hess and drummer Dennis Weber. Cripper played the first concert in September 2005. Hess dropped out shortly afterwards and was initially replaced by Thomas Maiwald. After his departure a year later, Sören Becker took over the bass.

The first six songs written by the band were released in 2006 on the EP Killer Escort Service . In the same year the band played u. a. at the Metalcamp Festival in Slovenia . In 2007, Cripper released his own debut album Freak Inside , which was recorded at Stage One Studio and mastered by Andy Classen . Together with the bands Specter Dragon and Hatred , Cripper went on the self-organized “Triple Thrash Threat” tour through Germany.

Devil Reveals and Antagonist

In 2008 bassist Sören Becker got out and was replaced by Bastian Helwig. After another tour of Germany with Hatred and Lost World Order (formerly Specter Dragon ) the album Freak Inside was re-released. A year later, the band recorded their second album, Devil Reveals , which was released in June 2009. Also in 2009 the band played at the Rockharz Open Air . In early 2010, Cripper played their first European tour supporting Overkill . In late January 2011, the band performed at the 70,000 Tons of Metal Festival, which took place on a cruise ship in the Caribbean . The musicians were accompanied by a camera team from the TV magazine Focus TV .

In 2011 there were festival appearances at Bang Your Head , Summer Breeze , Rockharz Open Air and the Eindhoven Metal Meeting . A year later the band released their third album Antagonist , for which two music videos were shot. Bassist Bastian Hellwig left the band for personal reasons and was replaced by Gerrit Mohrmann. Cripper played a European tour in the opening act of Onslaught and appeared in 2013 at the Metaldays Festival , among others . In early 2014, the band played at the fourth edition of the 70,000 Tons of Metal festival before Cripper was signed to Metal Blade Records in June 2014 . This was followed by festival appearances at the Brutal Assault , the Metal Frenzy Festival and the Metaldays.

Hyëna and Follow Me: Kill

The fourth studio album Hyëna was released in November 2014. A year later, the band played at Rockharz Open Air, before Cripper played at Wacken Open Air in 2016 and later played a co-headlining tour with the band Izegrim . The sixth studio album Follow Me: Kill was released on September 15, 2017 . Christian "Lommer" Wiesener, who plays together with Britta Görtz in the death metal band Critical Mess , was the successor to the retired bassist Gerrit Moormann . The last concert took place on June 23, 2018 at Indiego Glocksee in Hanover, before the band broke up.

The band members had "drifted apart in terms of common musical plans and private interests" and would "hinder each other", which "has a crippling effect on all sides". "To be honest, there is now a lack of strength and motivation to carry on", the band announced in a statement on the band's dissolution.

style

The band played a modern, technically sophisticated version of Thrash Metal. Fast and slower passages were constantly changing. The music was compared to other bands in the genre such as Holy Moses , but also Slayer , Evildead , Kreator or Anthrax .
