The Mein Schiff 5 is a cruise ship of the shipping company TUI Cruises . It entered service on June 24, 2016, has a length of 295 meters and is approved for 2534 passengers.
On August 4, 2014, Papenburger Meyer Werft announced in a press release the acquisition of STX Finland with a majority stake of 70 percent. She also announced that the Hamburg shipping company TUI Cruises has placed orders for two newbuildings of the Blue Motion series with the STX shipyard in Turku, Finland, with delivery in 2016 and 2017.
Simultaneously with the approval of the Finnish government for the acquisition, the order for Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 6 became legally binding on September 19, 2014 , which only differ in the interior layout (bars, restaurants). At the same time, two more ships with delivery in 2018 and 2019 were ordered under reserve.
The official start of construction of Mein Schiff 5 took place with the first steel cut of hull number 1389 on November 18, 2014 at the Meyer Turku shipyard , just under a month after Mein Schiff 4 floated up . The ship was built using the modular principle. On June 23, 2015 the ship was laid down and construction of the sister ship Mein Schiff 6 began. The float took place on January 15, 2016, and on the night of January 16, 2016, the ship was moved to the equipment quay.
On June 20, 2016, the Mein Schiff 5 was delivered and transferred from Finland to Kiel in Germany, where it was put into service on June 24, 2016. The ship was christened on July 15, 2016 in the Lübeck Bay off Travemünde by Lena Meyer-Landrut , the subsequent maiden voyage began on July 16, 2016 in Kiel .
