Radolfzell Minster
The Radolfzeller Minster or Minster of Our Lady in Radolfzell on Lake Constance is a three-aisled, eight-bay pillar basilica from the late Gothic period .
history
Construction of the Radolfzeller Minster began in 1436; There are no remains of the presumably Romanesque predecessor building and the complex of Bishop Radolt von Verona († 847). In 1488 construction was temporarily completed and the choir was consecrated.
In the years 1510 to 1516 the nave was increased. From 1550 to 1552 the aisles were vaulted and decorated with Gothic paintings in 1554 (visible in the yoke at the rear entrance from the market square). The epitaph of the knight Wolf von Homburg from 1567 is located in the minster .
In 1713 the central nave got a baroque lancet vault. A new high altar also came from the Baroque period, which was replaced in 1897 by a neo-Gothic altar by Josef Eberle . The baroque altarpiece (Nativity) by Joseph Glyckher is still in the cathedral. The rosary altar by David Zürn (1648) and the host's chapel (around 1750) are also baroque.
The current shape of the tower dates back to 1902/1903. With a height of 82 m, it is the highest church tower on Lake Constance .
The last renovation so far took place in the years 1982 to 1998. On October 14, 2008, the Münsterbauverein Radolfzell was founded to preserve the minster.
Since December 1, 2009 the cathedral has been shining in a new light at night, for which the French light artist Roland Jéol developed the concept. The light art on this urban building is part of a lighting concept for the entire city center.
Furnishing
Crucifixion group
The crucifixion group, which consists of the figures of Christ on the cross, Mother of God and the disciple Johannes, is the work of the sculptor Hans Schenck (* around 1580/1590 in Constance; † 1648). He worked from Constance in the entire western Lake Constance area. So he was called to Radolfzell. For this purpose, the Konstanz city council gave him a letter of recommendation dated 1622, which is still preserved in the Konstanz city archive. This year should therefore also be the period in which Hans Schenck created the masterpiece from the Radolfzeller Münster. The crucifixion group was transported to Freiburg for a mass during the Pope's visit in 2011 .
organ
The organ was built in 1997 by Mönch Orgelbau (Überlingen). The instrument has 39 sounding registers (2528 pipes) on three manuals and pedal , some of which come from previous instruments from 1903 (Wilhelm Schwarz, Überlingen) and 1954. The game actions and stop actions are mechanical.

Bells
The ringing in the former steel bell cage of the Radolfzeller Minster consisted of seven bells , which were cast in 1953 by the Schilling bell foundry in Heidelberg. In 2014 the steel bell cage was replaced by a wooden one and the ringing was supplemented by two small bells from the Rüetschi foundry in Aarau.
