Lucy Neville-Rolfe Jeanne, Baroness Neville-Rolfe , CMG , DBE (* 2. January 1953 ) is a British government official, business manager and politician of the Conservative Party . Since September 2013 she has been a Life Peer member of the House of Lords .

Life

Lucy Neville-Rolfe was born to a farmer . Her parents had five children. She grew up on a farm in a modest and financially difficult situation. However, her parents were interested in politics and had a good education. She first attended a convent school and later Somerville College at the University of Oxford . There she studied political science , philosophy and economics . She graduated from Oxford University with a Bachelor and Master of Arts in each of the subjects mentioned. She also completed a state training as a certified office worker (so-called "Chartered Secretary").

In 1973 she joined the British Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food as a civil servant. From 1977 to 1979 she was the private secretary of the then British Agriculture Minister, John Silkin . She then worked in various departments of the ministry, including a. in the departments of European Community Sheepmeat and Milk (1979–1986), Land Use (1986–1988) and in the Food Safety Act Division (1988–1990). From 1990 to 1992 she was Head of Personnel for the British Department of Agriculture.

From 1992 to 1994 she was a member of the Number 10 Policy Unit , a staff division of the British Prime Minister . She was in the areas of domestic policy and judicial jurisdiction (home and legal affairs). She is the Non-Executive Director of ITV plc (since 2010), a member of the Supervisory Board of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC Advisory Board, since 2013) and Governor of the London Business School (since 2011).

Membership in the House of Lords

On August 1, 2013, it was announced that Neville-Rolfe was to be made a Life Peer and a member of the House of Lords for the Conservative Party . On September 10, 2013, Baroness Neville-Rolfe , of Chilmark in the County of Wiltshire , was elevated to a Life Peer title and has been a member of the House of Lords since then. On October 29, 2013, with the assistance of Sarah Hogg, Baroness Hogg and Richard Fletcher-Vane, 2nd Baron Inglewood , she was officially introduced to the House of Lords.

honors and awards

In 2005, Neville-Rolfe was named Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG); this recognized her work for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In 2012 she was in the Queen's Birthday Honors for Dame of the Order of the British Empire appointed (DBE), in recognition of their services in the economy and in the nonprofit sector ( "in recognition of her services to industry and the voluntary sector"). In 2007 she received the European Women of Achievement Award .

She is an Honorary Fellow of Somerville College, Oxford University. In 2010 she became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (FCIS).

Private

Neville-Rolfe is married to Sir Richard Packer , former Secretary of State in the UK Department of Agriculture, whom they met while working together at the UK Department of Agriculture. Packer was her supervisor in the Department for Environment and Rural Affairs. She is the mother of four now adult sons. Her hobbies include cricket , horse racing , theater , art , architecture and gardening . Her personal identification features include striking blue strands in her hairstyle.
