Thomas Henry Ashton, 4th Baron Ashton of Hyde (* 18th July 1958 ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party , peer and businessman .

life and career

Thomas Ashton, who commonly uses his middle name Henry, is the eldest of four children (two sons and two daughters) of Thomas John Ashton, 3rd Baron Ashton of Hyde and Pauline Trewlove Brackenbury. He attended Eton College and Trinity College, Oxford . He then served in the Royal Wessex Yeomanry . There he last held the rank of lieutenant. In 1999 he lived on Broadwell Hill, Noreton-in-Marsh in Gloucestershire .

Since 2005 he has been Chief Executive Officer of Faraday Underwriting Ltd and the Faraday Reinsurance Co. Ltd . He is also Chairman ( Chairman ) of Heythrop Hunt Kennels Limited , and a member of the Trusteeship Council of the Mitsubishi UFJ Trust , the Oxford Foundation , the Lloyd's Patriotic Fund (a registered charity), the Heythrop Hunt Charitable Trust and Ashton Charitable Trust . He is a member of the Council of Lloyd's of London , where he represents Faraday Capital Limited, and the Advisory Council of Century Capital LLP .

He inherited his father's title as Baron Ashton of Hyde after his death on August 2, 2008.

Membership in the House of Lords

In July 2011 he was elected to the House of Lords in a by-election following the death of Michael Onslow, 7th Earl of Onslow . He prevailed against Geoffrey Robert James Borwick , John Ailwyn Fellowes, 4th Baron de Ramsey , Conroy Ryder, 8th Earl of Harrowby and Alexander Macmillan, 2nd Earl of Stockton , among others . It was officially launched on September 5, 2011. As a member of the Conservative Party , he has not voted in the interests of his party on several occasions.

family

Ashton married Emma Louise Allinson, daughter of Colin Allinson, on October 31, 1987 and they have four daughters. Ashton and his wife own a farm and vacation home.

The alleged heir to the title ( Heir Presumptive ) is Ashton's younger brother, the Hon. John Edward Ashton (* 1966).
