Jesse Norman

Alexander Jesse Norman (* 23. June 1962 in London ) is a British historian, journalist and politician of the Conservative Party .

He is a son of Sir Torquil Norman and Lady Elizabeth Montagu, daughter of the 10th Earl of Sandwich .

Norman attended the Eton College , the Merton College of the University of Oxford and the University College London and graduated as a Ph.D. in philosophy. He was a visiting lecturer at University College and a senior fellow at the liberal-conservative think tank Policy Exchange . He has been married to the Hon. Catherine Bingham, daughter of Baron Bingham of Cornhill , since 1992 . He has three daughters with her.

In May 2010 he won a seat as an MP in the constituency " Hereford and South Herefordshire" and moved into the House of Commons ; he was re-elected in May 2015. Since 2019 he has been the Financial Secretary to the Treasury with the rank of State Secretary in the UK Treasury .

As a publicist, Norman has published several works on political philosophy, including Adam Smith , Edmund Burke and Michael Oakeshott .
