Baldwin's First Administration
The first Baldwin government was formed in the United Kingdom on May 22, 1923 by Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin of the Conservative Party and replaced the Bonar Law government . The government consisted exclusively of ministers of the Conservative Party and was in office until January 23, 1924, after which it was replaced by the first MacDonald government.
In the general election of December 6, 1923 , the Conservative Party had lost its previous absolute majority in the House of Commons . Of the 615 seats, the Labor Party only had 191 seats and the Conservative Tories 258 seats. However, the reunited Liberal Party prevented the formation of a renewed conservative government with 158 seats in the lower house.
