HH Paolo Bonomi

The Società Hockey Paolo Bonomi is an Italian hockey club founded in 1963 as HC Tre Elle Vigevano and revived in 2002 from the village of Castello d'Agogna, 15 km southwest of Vigevano , in Lomellina . The club, playing in black and green, is a men's member of Serie A1, the first Italian hockey league.

history

In the early 1960s, around 15 young men, including Paolo Bonomi, regularly played field hockey on a vacant building site in Vigevano. Soon they joined the hockey club in Novara, 25 km to the northwest . In 1963 the HC Tre Elle Vigevano was founded. The promotion to Serie B took place in 1969 and two years later the move into Serie A.

After the rise the company Co.Ge.Ca. Name sponsor of the club, which won the Italian championship title in its first season in Serie A. A year later, Co.Ge.Ca. Vigevano also won the indoor hockey title and the Italian Cup. In 1973 the independent national Italian hockey federation was founded, with the 27-year-old club president Paolo Bonomi being elected deputy chairman. But Paolo Bonomi died in December 1974. In 1976 the club moved to Castello d'Agogna, where the new club facility with two natural grass pitches and a hockey hall was opened.

In the same year the club won the trophy for the second time. In 1977 the association was renamed to SH Gea Paolo Bonomi in honor of its former president . In 1979 the club won its second Italian championship title undefeated. After relegation from Serie A in the 1985 season, the club was dissolved.

Former players decided to re-establish the club in 2002. In 2005 the club was back in the third-rate Serie B and in 2007 it was promoted to Serie A2. At the end of 2008 an artificial turf field was completed on the club's premises. After 24 years, SH Paolo Bonomi managed to return to the upper house of Italian field hockey in 2009. Since then, the club has been able to hold its own in Serie A and in 2016 even reached 2nd place in the table and qualified for the European Cup. In the youth field, SH Paolo Bonomi recorded some national successes by winning the U21 championship in 2014/2015 and the U20 indoor title in 2013.

The team was eliminated in the EuroHockey Club Champions Cup 1973 after defeats against SC Frankfurt 1880 and Warta Posen in the preliminary round and reached position eleven of twelve participating teams. At the EuroHockey Club Champions Cup 1980 the team had to qualify as Italian champions due to the poor performance of Italy in previous competitions. There, despite a 1: 1 against Rock Gunners HC from Gibraltar and a 1: 0 against the Yugoslav club Subotica, the club was unable to qualify for the main tournament of the twelve best European teams. After 37 years, SH Paolo Bonomi will start again in a European Cup competition in 2017 with the Italian runner-up in 2016 and will take part in the second-rate EuroHockey Club Trophy .
