The Thatcher III Cabinet was formed in the United Kingdom on June 13, 1987 by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher of the Conservative Party and replaced the Thatcher II Cabinet . The cabinet remained in office until November 28, 1990, when it was replaced by the Major I Cabinet.

Riots in Trafalgar Square on March 31, 1990 over the Poll Tax .

In the general election of June 11, 1987 , the Conservative Party was confirmed as the strongest party. Of 650 seats in the lower house ( House of Commons ) was attributable to the conservative Tories 376 seats, and the Labor Party 229 and the other parties took 45 deputies. Margaret Thatcher then formed her third government. On March 3, 1988, the two opposition parties, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Liberal Party, united to form the Social Liberal Democratic Party (SLDP), which soon afterwards took on the name Liberal Democrats (Lib Dems). David Steel and Robert Maclennan were initially co-chairs before Paddy Ashdown became party leader of the Lib Dems on July 16, 1988.

The entry into force of a generally same poll tax (Poll Tax) on 1 April 1990 drew serious unrest after themselves. Margaret Thatcher resigned on November 22, 1990 after several cabinet reshuffles and vehement criticism, also from within the party, of her domestic, economic and European policy, whereupon the previous Chancellor of the Exchequer John Major formed a new cabinet as Prime Minister on November 28, 1990.
